Jean Carlo

Carlo JeanLieutenant General Carlo JEAN was born in Mondovì (Cuneo) on 12th of October 1936.
He attended the Military Academy in Modena from 1953 to 1955, the Service Branch School in Torino from 1955 to1957, the Italian and French Senior Staff College and the Centre for High Defense Studies.
During his Army Staff period he was Chief of the Office of Financial and Budget Planning of Army Staff and Chief of the Logistics Department of Defense Staff.
He commanded the Tactical Group “Susa”, the Italian Unit of the NATO Mobile Force and the Alpine Brigade “Cadore”.
From 1979 to 1982 he was in charge for public investment verifications and investment funds on employment planning on behalf of Economic Planning Ministry.
In 1980 was appointed Secretary of the Government Special Ministerial Committee to evaluate the damages caused by the Irpinia earthquake. From 1981 to 1985 he was consultant at the Institute of International Sociology of Gorizia – Department of Mass Emergency; From 1982 to 1985 consultant of the Minister for Civil Protection – Commission for the macro-emergency; From 1987 to 1989 he was Director of the Military Centre of Strategic Studies; In the period from 1988 to 1991 and 1993 to 1994 he was member of the group consultants at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Italian Foreign Policy planning; From September 1990 to May 1992 he was Military Adviser of the President of the Italian Republic; From January 1994 to September 1997 he was the President of the Centre for High Defense Studies; From October 1997 to March 2001 he was the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairman in Office for art. II (CSBM) and IV (Sub regional Arms Control) Annex 1-B of Dayton Peace Accords for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Graduated in Political Sciences, former professor of Strategic Studies of State University of Gorizia, he is, at present, professor at the Luiss University of Rome. Since its constitution, he is President of Centro Studi di Geopolitica Economica – (CSGE – Centre for Economic Geopolitics Studies) – Rome.
He is the member of Scientific Board of Institute of Italian Encyclopedia. From December 2002 to December 2006, he was the Chairman of SO.G.I.N. – Nuclear Plant Management Co, and a Governmental Commissioner for nuclear material safety and security.
He has been knighted as Grand Croce O.M.R.I. and of the UNESCO’s Gandhi Gold Medal, for his operating in favor of the prevention and resolution of the conflicts in Balkans and Middle East.
